Reflecting on a remarkable 2023, Blue Signal is excited to share the success of our annual Blue Signal Gives Back (BSGB) initiative. Last year, our dedicated team came together to support a cause that resonates deeply with our values, continuing our commitment to community engagement and making a real difference. Throughout the years, we've made impactful contributions to various organizations, including the American Parkinson Disease Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the International Justice Mission. This year, we're excited to announce the recipient of our 2023 BSGB initiative, the Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome Foundation, and share the unique story behind our choice.
Celebrating Giving Back: Blue Signal's Annual Philanthropy Contest
Blue Signal's annual philanthropy initiative involves a metrics-based, company-wide contest that rewards the winner with a donation to a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice. This year's contest ran from November 27, 2023 - December 24, 2023, and included recruiters and non-recruiters alike. Teams consisted of two recruiters, or a recruiter paired with a specialist from Operations, People & Culture, Marketing, or Finance. Each team selected a nonprofit charitable organization that was important to them to represent. Organizations represented this year included Arizona Small Dog Rescue, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, BeLoved Atlanta, ASPCA, Lifeline Children Services, Junior League of Phoenix, Sojourner Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, The Trevor Project, Ronald McDonald House Charities, No Kid Hungry, Phoenix Dream Center, Shriners Hospital, and more.
Recruiters could earn money for their chosen organization by hitting assigned metrics, such as candidate send-outs and placements. Specialists could earn money by participating in virtual races; each specialist was assigned a holiday character who would “compete” in the simulated race during the all-company meeting.
Our Operations team sent weekly updates on the contest standings. The competition was tight, with ties for first, second, or third place nearly every week. Ultimately, the team with the most points won, and Blue Signal matched the monetary amount to make a philanthropic donation in the winning team’s name. This year, Ryan Walsh was our Blue Signal Gives Back winner, earning $1,875.00 for the Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome Foundation.
2023’s Winning Organization – The Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome Foundation
The SKS Foundation was established in 2019 as a non-profit foundation for children and families affected by Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome. This rare genetic disorder is known for its broad spectrum of medical, intellectual, and behavioral implications. The Foundation's mission is centered on enhancing the lives of those living with SKS, fostering advanced research, medical collaborations, and raising global awareness.
The ongoing research on SKS aims to offer families with special needs deeper insights and earlier diagnoses. A key focus is to deeply understand MTOR-related conditions like SKS, to develop more effective and well-informed treatment strategies. This effort is crucial for improving patient care and outcomes for those affected by Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome.
The SKS Foundation holds a special place in the heart of Blue Signal. 4-year-old Jameson “JJ” Walsh, the youngest son of our CEO, Matt Walsh, was diagnosed with Smith-Kingsmore Syndrome in 2019. At a young age, JJ faced hearing challenges and successfully underwent two cochlear implant surgeries. His story is one of resilience and triumph. With the unwavering support of the SKS Foundation and its vibrant community, JJ continues to thrive. He is a testament to the progress and happiness possible through dedicated medical care and a supportive community network.
