The Medical Front Desk Specialist is a pivotal role within the Emergency Department, responsible for patient registration, admission processes, document, and insurance verification, and providing essential financial counseling. This position ensures accurate entry of patient data into the Epic EHR system, secures necessary authorizations and collaborates with clinical staff to facilitate a smooth transition for patients into the appropriate medical care.

Focus:
• Accurately collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information into the Epic EHR system.
• Obtain necessary authorizations and verify insurance coverage to ensure timely and accurate billing.
• Facilitate the admission process for emergency room patients, ensuring completeness of all required documentation.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure a smooth transition for patients from admission to the appropriate medical care.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients presenting to the Emergency Room.
• Obtain pre-authorizations and approvals for services as required by insurance providers.
• Provide financial counseling to patients, explaining insurance coverage, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expenses.
• Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and explore available financial assistance programs.
• Interact with patients, families, and visitors courteously and professionally.
• Address patient inquiries and concerns promptly, escalating issues as needed.
• Collaborate with other hospital departments, including billing, medical records, and nursing, to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
Skill Set
