IP Biotechnology Patent Agent
Our client is a well-established, full-service law firm with diverse practice areas including intellectual property law. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Patent Agent to join our client’s Intellectual Property practice group. This role offers an opportunity to work on biotechnology patents for various clients. The ideal candidate will bring a strong scientific background, coupled with patent counseling experience, to contribute to the firm’s IP practice.
*** This is NOT a remote position. Candidate must be willing and able to work onsite within one of the following locations: Boston, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, New York, San Diego, Silicon Valley, or Washington DC

Focus:
Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in the biotechnology field
Conduct patentability searches and analyses
Prepare responses to office actions from the USPTO and foreign patent offices
Assist in the preparation of patent opinions, including freedom-to-operate and non-infringement opinions
Collaborate with attorneys and scientists to develop patent strategies for clients
Stay current with developments in patent law and biotechnology
Participate in client meetings and provide clear explanations of complex technical and legal concepts.
Skill Set:
Ph.D. in biological sciences or a closely related field
USPTO registration number
Minimum of 3 years of patent counseling experience, including preparation and prosecution
Strong expertise in drafting and prosecuting biotechnology patent applications
Experience with international patent applications preferred
Excellent legal writing and research skills
Outstanding written and oral communication abilities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Top academic credentials required
Prior experience at a well-regarded law firm preferred.
