Fire Alarm System Sales Engineer
Location: Portland, OR
Compensation: Base + Commission, OTE $140,000 – $160,000
A well-established leader in the Fire and Life Safety industry is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Fire and Life Safety Systems Consultant to join their growing team in the Portland metro area. This high-impact role is ideal for a solutions-focused sales engineer who thrives on building strong customer relationships and delivering code-compliant safety solutions. The ideal candidate will help lead the effort in replacing, upgrading, and installing fire alarm systems in commercial settings, especially where existing inspection or service relationships already exist.

Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Estimating
• Create accurate, competitive estimates for fire alarm system replacements and upgrades.
• Evaluate existing systems for compliance with codes and identify opportunities for modernization.
• Conduct site surveys and review technical documents to define project scopes.
• Collaborate with internal engineering and operations teams to create tailored proposals.
• Drive contract negotiations that align with company financial goals and customer needs.
Client and Contractor Relations
• Build and maintain relationships with end users, general contractors, electrical contractors, and project managers.
• Represent the company with professionalism, acting as a trusted expert in fire safety solutions.
• Maintain proactive communication with existing and previous clients to identify new business opportunities.
Business Development
• Source new leads outside of traditional public bid forums.
• Promote company capabilities to architectural and engineering firms in the target region.
• Align marketing strategies with sales goals to expand market reach.
Project Coordination
• Facilitate smooth transitions from sales to operations with clear communication and customer alignment.
• Support project teams to ensure successful execution and uphold service quality standards.
Required Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience in fire alarm system sales, estimating, or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, local fire regulations, and AHJ requirements.
• Familiarity with major fire alarm system platforms (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, EST, etc.).
• Ability to read construction documents and perform on-site system assessments.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating tools.
• NICET Level II Certification in Fire Alarm Systems (preferred).
