Our client, a premier coal production company, is seeking an experienced Surface Operations Engineer to enhance its technical operations team. This role includes regular travel to company mine sites across different locations.
The Surface Operations Engineer will manage and execute all technical aspects of the mining and beneficiation processes, with a keen focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and optimizing production efficiencies.

Focus:
• Ensure adherence to safe work practices and compliance with MSHA and PADEP regulations in all mining operations.
• Build and continuously update geological reserve models using software like Carlson for effective mine planning.
• Collect field data and oversee exploration efforts to refine geological modeling based on new information.
• Conduct reserve studies and develop medium and long-range mine plans based on geological data.
• Manage permitting and reporting processes in conjunction with engineering consulting firms for regulatory compliance.
• Perform monthly surveys of clean and raw coal stockpiles and active mine open pits.
• Develop production schedules informed by geological data to support financial budgeting and forecasting.
• Ensure integrity in geological and production data collection processes to monitor trends effectively.
• Enhance safety and production efficiency through geological insights and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide coverage for mine foreman vacancies as needed.
• Ensure environmental compliance and assist in site water sampling.
Skill Set:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering or Geology.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geological mapping and modeling software.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Surface Miner Foreman’s Card.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson software.
• Background in surface coal mining operations.
• May require extended shifts or weekend work as necessary.
