They are seeking a detail-oriented Outpatient Coder I to join their remote team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate outpatient coding, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and fostering effective communication with clinical staff. As an Outpatient Coder I, you will contribute to the integrity and precision of their coding processes while staying updated on the latest industry standards.

Apply technical coding proficiency to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and/or CPT-4 codes for outpatient visit types, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Review medical records comprehensively, leveraging all available documentation to code diagnoses and procedures effectively. Demonstrate critical thinking skills to address coding challenges, including ADT edits, physician queries, and missing documentation. Interpret health record documentation using extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Adhere to Coding Clinic for HCPCs, CPT Assistant, and other relevant resources to select appropriate diagnoses and procedures with precision. Resolve Chargemaster NCCI or other outpatient edit claim failures as assigned. Utilize 3M Encoder resources to optimize coding accuracy. Provide rationale for coding selections as necessary, particularly in response to data quality audits. Meet established productivity and quality standards for each outpatient encounter type.
3 years of outpatient coding experience, preferably in a healthcare facility setting. Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required. Active membership with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred. Strong attention to detail and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Must reside within Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, or Wisconsin.
