Title: Network Infrastructure & Systems Specialist – Telecommunications
Location: Valparaiso, Indiana
Full-time | On-site | Non-Exempt
About the Opportunity
Join a long-standing, family-owned telecom provider with over 80 years of dedication to connecting rural communities through internet, phone, and TV services. This company is entering an exciting phase of infrastructure modernization and strategic expansion into underserved markets. As a critical addition to their Technical Operations team, the Network Infrastructure & Systems Specialist will help balance workloads, alleviate management constraints, and elevate service reliability.
You’ll work closely with internal IT staff to support and scale a growing ISP and transport network, bringing operational excellence to a high-touch, community-first organization. If you’re passionate about building resilient networks in a tight-knit, collaborative environment, this role offers the perfect balance of impact, autonomy, and purpose.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and troubleshoot WAN and LAN infrastructures, including core routing, switching, and cabling for residential and commercial services.
• Lead initiatives to upgrade legacy systems and accommodate new network demands.
• Design and implement contingency protocols for system outages.
• Support cross-departmental teams with expert-level network consulting.
• Collaborate on the testing and deployment of advanced networking technologies and platforms.
• Assign and manage network addressing; maintain accurate and up-to-date IP records.
• Ensure performance through regular tuning and real-time network monitoring tools.
• Interface with third-party vendors and carriers to troubleshoot, scale, and support connectivity.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotations and oversee occasional off-hours upgrades.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in ISP, telecom carrier, or cable network environments.
• Proficient in IPv4/IPv6, network switching/routing, and Cisco hardware (Layer 2/3 devices).
• Hands-on with protocols such as OSPF and BGP; fluent in IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS.
• Experience with passive DWDM OTN systems and fiber optic communications.
• Skilled in tools like Wireshark for analyzing network traffic from Layer 2 to Layer 7.
• Comfortable creating and maintaining technical diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
• Able to adapt quickly to new technologies and proprietary CLI interfaces.
• Strong communicator with a proven ability to operate in collaborative, close-knit teams.
• Able to lift 50 lbs occasionally and support light regional travel.
What Sets This Role Apart
• Legacy + Growth: Be part of a company where team members have deep community roots – and where leadership is embracing smart, forward-thinking expansion.
• Flexible & Fair: On-site work is expected, but leadership is practical – flexibility for errands or late-night deployments is built into the culture.
• Compensation: While the role is salaried with occasional overtime (especially during network events), high-value contributions are rewarded with the potential for bonuses or additional support.
• Benefits Package: Up to 80% of health insurance premiums covered. 401(k) with up to 4% match. A relaxed, non-bureaucratic atmosphere where your name – and your impact – will be known.
• Not Just a Number: The team values personality, loyalty, and a desire to contribute over long titles or big egos. Many employees have grown up together – and stay because of that deep, familial culture.
Ideal Candidate
This role is perfect for a skilled network administrator or systems engineer looking to return to their roots – or build something lasting with a company that truly values community and team loyalty. If you’ve grown tired of the city churn and crave stability, respect, and technical challenge, we’d love to speak with you.
