Geotechnical Department Manager

Focus:
Lead and mentor a team of engineers and field professionals—guiding career development and fostering technical excellence.
Plan and execute a diverse portfolio of geotechnical projects (transportation, structures, civil infrastructure), ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
Drive geotechnical design and risk assessments using AASHTO LRFD and LFD/ASD methodologies.
Oversee quality control processes—review reports, lab data, field docs, and monitor subcontractor performance.
Engage clients to develop proposals, design strategies, and maintain strong relationships at DOT, municipal, and private-sector levels.
Manage project handoffs—review deliverables, address technical issues, and ensure client satisfaction.
Support business development activities: identify opportunities, contribute to proposals, and pitch technical capabilities.
Collaborate on budgeting, resource allocation, and operational plans with senior leadership.
Champion safety and continuous improvement: lead site inspections, team training, and implement best practices.
Skill Set:
MS or PhD in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
15+ years of relevant experience, leading heavy civil or transportation geotechnical projects.
Deep knowledge of geotechnical design and analysis methods (AASHTO LRFD, LFD/ASD).
Proficient in state DOT and FHWA requirements, especially in FL/GA geological contexts.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in FL or GA.
Strong track record managing, mentoring, and growing technical teams.
Excellent client communication and presentation skills.
Active involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE, Geo-Institute, or state DOT geotechnical committees (preferred)
